Nothing About This is Easy….

Have I said this before?  It seems like I say this all the time.

I am editing….again….and it’s driving me up the wall.  I keep changing stuff, hopefully making it better, but it’s such a slow process.  I hate it.  And I don’t use hate lightly.

Nothing about this is easy.  Nothing about this is fun.  Nothing about this is uplifting, inspiring, or even tolerable.

I keep praying I get this thing published mainly for one reason: so I can hire someone to edit my future work henceforth.

It’s boring.  I know this stuff like the back of my hand.  It’s mind-numbing.  It’s outright awful.

This will be my last time.  I just can’t take it anymore!  I am just praying for the fortitude to finish this round and quickly.

I thought (for some stupid reason), This’ll be easy.  Just one more quick read-through before querying.  It’ll only take a couple of days. Wrong again.

I should have known better.  It’s not quick.  I guess I just tell myself this so I’ll do it.  Because once I start it gets done.

But only from God’s will, not mine.  I would have given up long ago.

  1. Rome wasn’t built in a day…..don’t pressure yourself. Do a little bit at a time….You are the little engine that says “I think i can”. Enjoy your day.

  2. YOU WILL SUCCEED BECAUSE GOD IS WITH YOU.
He is your source of inspiration in everything you do, so leave it all to Him.
When your book does get published, and I know it will, I will delight in reading it because the author (you) have become like a sister to me. (sisters in Christ).
    God bless you.

  3. I admire the talent and skill to create an original piece. I quite enjoying editing for people; I just wish I could write something original! 🙂 I do have three children’s picture books in the back of my mind…two of them for twenty-five years. I know, how terrible! Maybe someday, I’ll sit down with some paper and a pencil. Perhaps I need someone on whom to bounce ideas.

      1. Atozmom, thank you! I might take you up on that offer. I’m retiring from teaching the first of June and then will be in Africa for over two weeks on mission. Perhaps between that and looking for a new (low-pressure) job, I’ll put some words on paper…finally. 🙂 In the meantime, I am enjoying your blog! Patti

  4. I don’t understand why you feel you must complete another round of going through it all again BEFORE you query….most publishers prefer just the query letter, without the manuscript. I was always under the impression that unsolicited manuscripts tended to annoy most publishers. Has this changed?
