Ever Notice Your Calling is Not Your Choice?

I’d love to take the path most taken: put my kids in school, work out at the gym, sip coffee with friends, go shopping, take vacations, and lead a normal, suburban life.

But I can’t.

And I don’t have a choice about it.

I must follow where God leads and that’s not exactly the way I’d go and certainly not the easy route that’s for sure.  I’m called to write:  a path full of rejection which I’m not good at taking.  I’m called to homeschool–a bit out of the mainstream but growing by leaps and bounds as more and more parents realize what a classroom full of 30 kids is really like compared to 3 kids.  I’m called to be a wife and mother and care-taker of animals.  And I’m sure I’m called to other things; I just can’t see them at the moment.

Not that my life is hard.  In fact, I’m very, very blessed.  I have a hard-working husband who supports me in all I do.  I have wonderful, healthy kids who are growing up strong in the Lord.  I have 2 dogs and 2 cats to care for.  I have a home, cars, God, and love.

Yet for those who are blessed, more is expected.  I am called for more and I can’t quit until it’s achieved.  My calling is also not my own.  I don’t think I would have chosen it.  In fact, I know I wouldn’t have.  I would have chosen to be born to royalty (or at least to millionaires) and led a cushy life for the my brief time here on Earth.

But I wasn’t.

I was called to lead an ordinary life in a not-so-ordinary fashion.

All because of God within.

It drives me, propels me, forces me to do so.

Even when I have no desire to.

1 Corinthians 6:19-20:  “…You are not your own; you were bought at a price.”

I am God’s.  And I’d have it no other way.

God has also called you to share truth to others and speak into their lives. Thank you for doing so this morning.

I needed that today!! I have been called to support a Conservative Christian Women running for public office. It is not easy. No sooner do I accomplish one thing than I am asked to do another.Or I have to start again from scratch. Many obstacles come my way. Dealing with difficult people is part of it. when this happens, we know we are on the right path and we must continue despite the trials.
God is in control. God has a plan. I could not get my BSF lesson done without your help. Last week I didn’t get it done at all. Too many meetings and distractions.I will do it this week.Thank you.

Sweet girl, remember you were called to lead a life that matters to Him and you are doing that. What we do on earth echoes in eternity. You are doing things that you will be glad to hear that echo! Stand firm and seek His presence and don’t be shaken. Aren’t you glad that you are NOT wasting your days!

As Jesus follower my aim is to conform to Gods choice rather than me being in charge and its humbling! When my life was full of all my choices it wasnt good. When I was on my own path it was full of weeds and thistles and pain. I could say it right but I didnt know how to be a disciple. I had made it this way. In came BSF, wow, what an explosion zone and reconstruction my path has become. My life is now Gods path. I’m having to give up so much control to choose to grow my faith toward Gods way and trust Him instead. When I get it right with the Lord I’m seeing the beautiful little faith flowers of joy and goodness popping up here and there and blossoming on the sides of the path in the soft soil where the thistles and weed had been uprooted. It’s such a refreshing surprise. I also feel like you, giving up my so called control for the choice of following Jesus has great blessings.
Thanks for coming along with us.

God makes the call, and the idea here is from before the formation of the world. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.

Thank you so much for sharing your insight. I am new to BSF and sometimes I go away feeling very confused and lost. When I read your posts I feel so much better and actually understand! I truly appreciate your commitment and work.
