BSF Study Questions Acts Lesson 2, Day 5: Acts 2:33-47

Summary of passage:  Peter says that Jesus now sits at the right hand of God and pours out what we now see and hear.  He has received the promised Holy Spirit.  David did not ascend to heaven (for a detailed explanation of this see my previous post here.  David is in heaven now but not at the time of his death).  God has made Jesus Lord and Christ.

The people asked what should they do and Peter told them to repent and be baptized in the name of Jesus to be forgiven of your sins and receive the Holy Spirit.  Everyone of you can receive such a gift.  3000 chose to be baptized that day.

These people were considered the first church.  They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching, fellowship, breaking of the bread, and prayer.  They gave to everyone as needed.  They continued to meet and eat together and praise God.  The Lord grew their numbers daily.

Questions:

13a)  Psalm 110:1

b)  Verse 33  Exalted to the right hand of God

c)  Personal Question.  My answer:  Knowing that Jesus has poured out what I now see and hear makes it easier to accept where I am at.  The whys are still present and the how longs but knowing Jesus is with me in all my struggles is comforting.

14)  Repent and be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins

15a)  1) Repent  2)  Were baptized  3)  Devoted themselves to apostles teaching, fellowship, breaking of bread (communion), and prayer  4)  Gave to anyone as needed

b)  Personal Question.  My answer:  I need to do more of all: repent more, pray more, give more, read the Bible more, be overall a better, more Godly person

Conclusions:  I had to read the passage a couple times before I knew what they were asking in Question 13c, that “Christ has poured out what you now see and hear.”  That should have been a bit more clearer.

I think in the back of our minds we all know God has placed us in a particular place with certain people in challenging circumstances for a reason.  We all know this.  But keeping it in the forefront of your mind as you are struggling through it is a challenge for many.  Definitely for me.

I know I have a purpose and a meaning in this world.  I just have to remind myself more often and take comfort that it’s not in my hands.
