Summer Devotional August 2nd, 2017

1 Corinthians 13:4-8:  “Love is patient, love is kind.  It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud.  It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs.  Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth.  It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.  Love never fails.”

I know most of you know this one, but it’s the apex of God and who He is.  We need reminded of this daily.  Love (God is love) never fails.  Love (God) is patient and kind.  Love (God) is not easily angered.  Love (God) perseveres.

With God, we can do anything, be anything, achieve anything.  His plans are perfect and all we need to do is trust.

This is a beautiful song about love and God and this video has some cool quotes from famous people.  Enjoy!

  1. Father, I seek you with all my heart. Help me to sense your nearness and to know your presence.

O Lord, please guard my soul from pride, my heart from callousness, and my mind from too much focus on unimportant things and not enough on your things.

I know that I know you so much less than you know me. But your faithfulness in my life, your power displayed in history, and your promise to bring me home one day all help sustain me. I want to know you so that my life can be lost in your will.

  2. Could you explain 1cor. 13:8 in more detail–thank you–bill gilles

    1. Hey Bill!

Paul here is emphasizing the eternal nature of love versus the transitory nature of prophecies, languages, and knowledge. Prophecies, once fulfilled, cease. In heaven, there will be one language. Knowledge can be temporary like how to operate a record player that we don’t have anymore.

      Here’s a great piece of explanation: https://www.ucg.org/bible-study-tools/bible-questions-and-answers/what-does-1-corinthians-13-verse-8-mean-when-it-says

      Thanks for asking!
