Summer Bible Study: Sermon on the Mount: Week 2, Day 6: Matthew 5:48

Passage: MATTHEW 5:48

“Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect.”

Matthew 5:48

Reflection Questions for Matthew 5:48

15) I rely on my behavior of being “good enough” when reality it’s not good at all. I am lead to try to be better and fully lean on God rather than my own actions and feelings of trying to be good enough.

16) I am trying to be in the Word more every day. Pray more. Take time out of my busy days and be with the Lord. And, remember all of this is only possible because of Him. Thank God more, too.

Conclusion to Week 2 of Sermon on the Mount: Matthew 5:17-48

Great lessons on how to live! Again, we see that God cares about the heart and our thoughts. He wants all of us every day and not just on Sundays.

Most of us think of ourselves as good, but are we? We don’t physically murder or commit adultery, but what do our thoughts say? We must strive to be more like Christ in every way!

God wants us to love others as He does and through that love, we’ll grow closer to Him.

What a gracious God we have!

15) It’s definitely a great review of what Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross means for me. Gives me perspective and appreciation for God, His Son, and His word.

16) For me, it’s about sharing Jesus’ story. I can definitely be more forthcoming with this with others and be more grateful and give God the credit for what He has done in my life. Also, I want to remember that God is with me always and I can do all things through Him.

Summer Bible Study: WordGo’s Christ’s Life and Work: Week 5, Day 4: Matthew 28:11-15

SUMMARY OF MATTHEW 28:11-15

The women went to report to the disciples. Some of the guards went to report to the chief priests what had happened. The chief priests, wanting to hide this news, bribed the soldiers to lie and say that during the night, the disciples came and took the body. They offered to protect the soldiers from consequences of falling asleep.

Questions for Matthew 28:11-15

9) When people lie, others will inevitably believe the lie. The lie can be perpetuated, which still holds true today. Many don’t believe in the resurrection of Jesus. Heartbreaking.

10) They will never see eternal life. They will never fulfill their purpose in life. God’s plans will still prevail. They will suffer the consequences of their unbelief.

11) Good question. This is hard. I can’t name specifics, but I’m sure I have and I’m sure I suffered because of it.

We live because Jesus lives. We can be transformed by the power of Jesus Christ. Walk with him and never fail.

Questions for Matthew 28

1) In this case, “authority” means the right and power to do something. Here, Jesus is saying that he’s been given power of God to do things, and he’s giving that authority to his disciples and to us.  He is giving them and us the power to spread the word about him and the salvation that comes with faith. This is known as The Great Commission. Jesus has given me and all of us the authority to spread the Good News to others. He had authority over everything.

2) His presence should give us the power, courage, and strength to spread the Gospel and tell others the Good News. Many of us are too afraid of rejection and don’t do so well with evangelism; others do well.

Conclusions to WordGo Christ’s Life and Work Matthew 28

Even when you feel dead inside, Jesus is alive inside of you, working to change you and make you more like him every single day.  He can change our reality as we step out in faith with him.  He can transform who we are in him. He gives us strength to do all things. He is our hope. Do you believe?

Summer Bible Study: WordGo’s Christ’s Life and Work: Week 4, Day 5: Matthew 27:57-66

SUMMARY OF MATTHEW 27:57-66

When evening approached, a rich man named Joseph of Arimathea who had become a disciple of Jesus asked Pilate for Jesus’s body. He wrapped Jesus’s body in clean linen cloth and put him in his tomb. He rolled a big stone in front of it. Mary Magdalene and the other Mary sat outside the tomb.

The Romans made the tomb secure so that the disciples could not come and take Jesus’s body and tell people he had been raised from the dead as Jesus preached he would do on the third day. So Pilate ordered a guard to secure Jesus’s tomb by putting a seal on the stone and posting a guard.

Questions for Matthew 27:57-66

12) Joseph prepared Jesus’s body in rich clothes and placed in a nice tomb. Joseph used his best for Jesus. His body was prepared according to Jewish customs. He was buried in a new, costly tomb. He was definitely dead if treated as such.

13) The Romans made the tomb secure so that the disciples could not come and take Jesus’s body and tell people he had been raised from the dead as Jesus preached he would do on the third day. Little did the chief priests and the Pharisees realize that they actually helped prove the resurrection. God used people (Jesus’ enemies) to help prove the resurrection. How awesome!

14) It offers hope amidst all the sadness. There is hope to hold onto even in the midst of incredible sadness and despair.

Conclusions to WordGo Christ’s Life and Work Matthew 27:57-66

God is doing more, even if we can’t see it. His ways are not our ways. God is in the circumstances, and He will work them for good. All you have to do is trust Him.

Summer Bible Study: WordGo’s Christ’s Life and Work: Week 4, Day 4: Matthew 27:45-56

SUMMARY OF MATTHEW 27:45-56

Jesus hung for three hours in this darkness. At the ninth hour, Jesus cries out to God, asking why He has forsaken him. Some who were there thought Jesus was crying for Elijah. They immediately ran to get a sponge and put wine vinegar on it. These people offered it to Jesus to drink. They waited to see if Elijah would come and save him. Jesus cried out again and then died. At that moment, the curtain in the temple was torn in two, the earth shook and the rocks split. Tombs broke open and the bodies of many holy people who were dead came to life. They came out of their tombs and appeared to many people after Jesus’s resurrection.

Those who were there with Jesus when he died, including the Roman centurion believed he was the Son of God. Many women were there who had followed Jesus from Galilee. These included Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James and Joses, and the mother of Zedebee’s sons.

Questions for Matthew 27:45-56

9) The women probably because I am a woman. Truthfully, any of the people. I would have felt helpless and would have just waited, praying.

10) To pay the price for sin, Jesus, God’s sinless Son, had to die. That is extreme and costly. His death should signal just how serious sin and its consequences are to God and should show us God’s great love for us with Jesus’ death.

11) The earth was clouded in darkness for three hours. Darkness is a symbol of sin. At that moment, the curtain in the temple was torn in two. This signifies that we all immediately had access to God. There would be no need for a priest to be the only one who could be with God. The earth shook and the rocks split. These are signs of God’s power and judgement. Tombs broke open and the bodies of many holy people who were dead came to life. They came out of their tombs and appeared to many people after Jesus’s resurrection. This shows what will happen when we will be resurrected.

Conclusions to WordGo Christ’s Life and Work Matthew 27:45-56

Jesus gave up his spirit for us. How amazing! We are made righteous by his death. We are free. Do you live in this freedom each and every day?
