Pithy Prayer August 7th, 2018

Almighty God and Abba father, over these last several days I have tried to understand your love for me and my fellow humans. I don’t profess to understand your love, but I do know that you have blessed me in ways I could not have imagined. So please, dear father, help me remember your great love for me when I am faced with temptation, led to doubt your love, or wonder about my worthiness. I want your love to be reflected in my daily life. Thanks for loving mightily. Thanks for loving sacrificially. Most of all thanks for loving first.Image result for glorify god

Father, your love is so vast, so gracious and so life changing. I ask that you, Holy Spirit, would help change my heart to more perfectly reflect and glorify the Father.

Dear Lord, please help us tear down every wall that divides and separates your people. Forgive each other. Prejudice towards each other. Stir in us a deep longing to share the unity of heaven in our world today.

How can I ever thank you for your love and mercy demonstrated in the sacrifice of your Son for my sin? Please forgive me for those times that I have not shown my appreciation for your grace in the way I live my life.

Amen.

Pithy Prayer June 7th, 2018

Please empower me to a vibrant life that is fullRelated image
of your Spirit and always open to your
leading. Please make your presence and your
will known to me.

Holy Father, I do love you and your Son Jesus
with all my heart. Forgive me when the passion
and the love I have for you dims. Rekindle in me
an unquenchable desire to show my love for Jesus
in all that I do and say. Lord God almighty,
Ruler of Heaven and earth, I believe,
but help my unbelief.

Abba Father, I praise you! Please never let me out
live my love for you or my heart’s desire to be
obedient and pleasing to you.

You are worthy, my God and Father, of all glory and
power. Thank you for blessing me with your grace.
I thank you for adopting me into your royal family
by your grace.

O, Lord God. Who searches hearts and minds, please
give me an inquiring heart that thirsts after
pleasing and obeying you.

Lord search my heart and try me and see if
there is any wickedness in me. Give me the
joy that knowing You produces.

Amen.

The Little Soul Series

I picked up two children’s books at the library, having known nothing about them, which were fabulous.

The first, The Little Soul and the Sun, is a conversation with God and a child as the child (Little Soul) tries to figure out who he is.  This has a lot of imagery about being the Light and is a bit abstract, which for my little kids, I think went over their heads but they liked it anyways.

The best line in this book is God says, “Always remember:  I have sent you nothing but angels.”

A part that went over my kids’ heads but I liked was when the person sent to help Little Soul learn to forgive tells him, “Remember who I am in the moment I do the worst to you.”

I’m not for sure if we’re supposed to remember God in these moments or remember the better part of the person hurting you but I liked either one, especially as it applies to relatives because sometimes people hurt us in the heat of the moment and if we remember who they are, it is easier to forgive.

The better one in my opinion, the one not quite-so-theoretical, is The Little Soul and the Earth, which continues with God sending Little Soul to be born and experience forgiveness.

This book has great timeless messages such as:  God is always with you.  He sends a guardian angel to be by your side always.  Mommy and Daddy are love and to get more love you simply must give it away.  Giving away love can be as simple as smiling.

The guardian angel tells Little Soul only one thing is necessary:  faith in God.  “You’ve got to believe that you’ll always have everything you need.  You’ve got to believe that God is on your side.”

This was great for me to hear, not just my kids.

Both books are by Neale Donald Walsch.  These books are based on the Conversations with God series, which I have not read and am in no way endorsing.  I don’t know anything about the author.  I read the on-line reviews of the book, curious as to where these stories came from and some were scathing.  Since I have no idea, I’m remaining neutral.

Just to be clear:  I’m recommending the children’s books, not the adult books.

Age Old Lessons

“Her many sins have been forgiven–for she loved much.  But he who has been forgiven little loves little.”  Luke 7:47

Jesus is explaining how the man who was forgiven a bigger debt ($500 to make it simple) loves more than the man who was only forgiven a small debt ($50).  He expands this to the sinful woman, who loves Jesus more because of her sins (she anoints him, washes his feet with her tears, and kisses his feet); whereas Simon did not of these things.  Therefore, he has less love.

I read this and thought of how I’ve been through a lot and all this year in Isaiah we’ve learned life is not hunky-dory and God gives us trials to grow us and force us to turn our faces towards Him.

I think this is true.  Those who have an easy life do take things for granted and don’t appreciate the good life when it’s there if they’ve never had a bad life.  Someone who has suffered would love more.  Someone who’s lost someone close to them–spouse, parents, child–would love more.  Would hold on tighter. Would look at each day as a gift and not just move callously through it.

I hope I have more love.  I don’t know.  I think I’ve walled off my heart so much I don’t see this love portrayed to others.  I’m trying though.  I recognize it and am trying to be better with those around me.  My instinct is to push others away instead of embrace them and I have to fight that tendency every day.  So I pray slowly it will happen–and love will shine through.
