This is Worse Than Writer’s Block

Ever have one of those days where everything you write is crappy?

That’s my day today.  Nothing sounds right.  Everything is repetitive.  No brilliant thoughts or analogies. Just plain and simple and to be frank, horrible, words strung together.  My 7 year old can write better than this sometimes.  Every word stinks worse than a skunk on a hot summer day.

I think I’d rather have writer’s block than these days because I get the sense I’m a failure.  I keep thinking, “This sucks!  Maybe I’m not meant to be a writer.  I should just quit now and forever hold my peace.”

Writer’s block is legitimate.  It’s where nothing comes to mind.  But it’s something you work through or just return later when the creative juices are flowing.

Bad writing is a sense you can never improve this stuff so why bother.  The only solution is to stop and come back later.  But I always wonder, “Will it get better later or can you improve something that is just bad?”

There are bad writers out there and these days I list myself amongst them.  I just pray I’m a good writer tomorrow.

  1. You’re not a bad writer today; you’re just “practicing scales with cold hands.” Tomorrow, you’ll be playing the Bach three-part invention and will be astounded by God’s grace! 🙂

  2. Just keep going……even though you think what you’re writing is not good (negative thinking). As you continue writing from the heart….and keeping your thinking in a positive mode, the excellence will come through. The main thing is “Do Not Give Up!” Your talent is evident…just keep going. God Bless!

  3. You are a great writer! Why not try to stick to Biblical writing. Your take on the BSF study questions really shows how you grasp the meaning of what you have studied. Your writings really help me to understand my study even better than my BSF leader or listening to the lecture can. So, please don’t be too hard on yourself, you have such a wonderful talent. Hang in there.

  4. Dear “Mom”,
Cheer up! Who even suggested to you that being a Christian is all peaches and cream. Satan is just hysterical with laughter when you get in one of these funks.Even when we don’t understand why, there are times that we just have to step back and turn it over to God. Remember, nothing happens without God permitting it, and everything He does is because He loves you. No matter what happens you can talk to Him about it. Watch for the blessing. P.S. I really enjoy your incite in the BSF lessons too.

  5. You may just need a small rest from it. Even Jesus took a rest on the mountain from His preaching because he was wore out. It taught us to “take a break” so you won’t get burnt out.

You are an awesome writer with so much talent. Surely a gift from God. Might be time to be still and listen.

  6. You are so hard on yourself. I am always in awe with your summaries etc. with BSF. You amaze me that you have the mind to do that.I am not gifted when it comes to putting my thoughts into words like you do. You are a very gifted and talented writer. Thank you for all you do for everyone.

  7. Relax in the peace of His presence – acknowledge your need to refresh your mind and body and spirit by stepping away from that writing desk and allowing your thoughts to flow freely as you walk through your house or take a long car ride or meditate in prayer. Love and blessings to you and yours.
