Please remind me through your Spirit of your nearness and your care. In my moments of struggle and doubt, please make your presence known. It is so comforting to know that my words, thoughts, and emotions are all presented to you through your Holy Spirit. Father, there are times that I feel inadequate and unworthy to approach you. Thank you for giving me the assurance that you will always hear me even when I can’t find the words to say.

Father, I know you love me. You have done so much to bless and save me. I deliberately place the cares, the worries and concerns of my heart in your hands… Father, I also want to thank you for the many ways you have blessed me over my life…Now, dear father, please fill my heart with your Spirit and my mind with the sense of your presence and peace.

Search me, O God, I know that my heart is not always pure and my ways are far from perfect. Search me, O God, for I need your purifying presence. Search me, O God, for I want you to set the course and the destination of my life.

Amen.

Pithy Prayer August 2nd, 2018

Please forgive me, O God, for the times that I have hedged on my commitment to you and flirted with the darkness. I want to live for you with passion, joy, and fulfillment. I want to be transformed to be like Christ.

What joy fills my heart, Father, when I anticipate what it will be like in your presence— to have you wipe each tear from my eyes and to have you introduce me again to those I love and to those I’ve only known by reputation. Please never let me outlive that sense of anticipation and never let that hope dim in my heart, no matter what else may happen in my life here.

Father, I praise you for your holiness, majesty, and power. I thank you for your loving grace. I am humbled by your sacrificial love that has saved me. But today, dear father, I thank you most of all for your Holy Spirit, who lives in me, who empowers me, who cleanses me, who comforts me, and who makes your fatherhood accessible and real to me.

Amen.

Pithy Prayer June 5th, 2018

Heavenly Father, ever near with your loving presence, please bless me with a deeper and more personal knowledge and experience of you in my life. Until the day I can see You face to face in heaven, please draw me closer and closer to you. Thank you that the Holy spirit intercedes for me while I pray. Thank you that I don’t have to articulate prayers to be heard. I come to you as your child, your humble servant who longs to live for you and praise you with all of my life.

Thank you for the gift of the Holy Spirit who keeps my hope alive and fills me with a sense of your loving presence. May my life today and everyday display my confidence in your love by sharing your kindness with others.

Father, thank you for the confidence I have in Jesus! I know that whether I live till Jesus comes or if I were to die this day, I can have confidence that my future is with you because it is tied to Jesus’ victory over death. Thank you for giving me a home with you as my ultimate future.

Please open my mind and heart to know you better through the presence of Your Holy Spirit.

Amen.

The Holy Spirit

THE HOLY SPIRIT

The Holy Spirit abiding in me
Your gift gave me power, the truth I can see
It was the Spirit that changed my life
Your love for me, Your sacrifice

What is the greatest gift God gave me?
The Word says “Lo. I am with you always”
A Comforter, a helper, leading the way
Filling that yearning for which I pray

It is not my effort, but Christ that achieves
The life of freedom that God has for me
The Holy Spirit fills me with peace
It is Christ in me

The Cross, the Risen Christ and the Spirit released
O Lord, My God, What a Great Victory

COMMENT ON THE HOLY SPIRIT

The Holy Spirit is God. The Bible says
He is omnipresent.

“Where can I go from your Spirit? Where can I flee
from Your presence? I go up to the heavens, You are
there, if I make my bed in the depths, You are
there.”

When I accepted Christ, that Holy Spirit–that God–
came and dwelt in me. Christ’s disciples were
ordinary people like you and me. At Pentecost
something definitely happened.

When they were filled with the Holy Spirit, their
life changed. It wasn’t something that happened
quietly. These men were behind closed doors full
of fear. When they received the power of the Holy
Spirit what happened to their fear?

I didn’t see the same results as the apostles did, but
I know that I ceased being ordinary.

The Bible says I am a new creation,
born again. My hearts desire is to glorify and
please God. The Holy Spirit changed my heart,
changed my desires. It says I am sealed. I will
never be forsaken.

1 Corinthians 5:17
“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new
creation has come: The old has gone, the new
is here.”

BSF Study Questions Matthew Lesson 3, Day 4: Matthew 3:11-12

Summary of passage:  John the Baptist is speaking and he says he will baptize the people with water for repentance but to be prepared for one is coming who will baptize with the Holy Spirit and with fire.  He will clear the threshing floor and burn up the chaff (basically judge).

Questions:

8 )  He baptized with water.  He did not baptize with the Holy Spirit and fire.

9)  Jesus would be more powerful than him.  He would not be fit to even carry his sandals.  He will baptize with the Holy Spirit and fire.  He will judge.

10)  Joel 2:28:  The Spirit will be poured out and people will prophesy, dream dreams, and see visions.

Ezekiel 36:25-27:  You will be clean and cleansed from all your impurities and idols.  God will give you a new heart and spirit, which will move you to follow God’s decrees and keep His laws.

John 7:37-39:  Streams of living water or the Spirit will flow from within for those who believe in Jesus.

Acts 1:5, 8:  Baptized with the Holy Spirit and will receive power.

Isaiah 44:3:  The Spirit will be poured out as well as God’s blessing.

11a)  John the Baptist baptized with water as a symbol of repentance and forgiveness by God for people’s sins.  It was an outward symbol that one was ready to receive the Holy Spirit.  Since Pentecost and Jesus’ death on the cross, when we are baptized we are not only repenting our sins and asking for forgiveness from God for our sins but we are also accepting that Jesus died on the cross for our sins.  This faith in Jesus Christ as our Savior allows the Holy Spirit to indwell within us and now we are marked at His and guided by Him forever and accepted into His kingdom.

Romans 6:3-4:  Paul writes:  “…all of us who were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death?  We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life.”

Ephesians 1:13-14:  “Having believed [in Jesus], you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit, who is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance until the redemption of those who are God’s possession…”

John 3:5-15:  “…no one can enter the kingdom of God unless he is born of water and the Spirit…no one has ever gone into heaven except the one who came from heaven–the Son of Man…everyone who believes in him may have eternal life.”

b)  Personal Question.  My answer:  I love review and getting my thoughts straight.  Just remembering that when we accept Jesus, we are marked, we are His, and the Holy Spirit is there to help us follow Him.  Also, great comfort in remembering always where my true home is:  heaven.

Conclusions:  It is interesting to note  how much the Spirit is mentioned in the Old Testament before it even came upon us in the New.  I love how we can see and read how prophecy has been fulfilled and how it reassures us that prophecy will continue to be fulfilled in Jesus’ Second Coming.  Great ‘little’ lesson today!

Great little site I found that explains how one can receive and how one knows they possess the Holy Spirit:
