Pithy Prayer July 31st, 2018

Almighty and Holy God, may my life delight you and bring you joy. However, dear Father, I am aware that my character falls far short of your holiness and righteousness, and the mercy and grace I display to others pales in comparison to the mercy and grace you have shown me. So please, Father, help me know those areas where I most need to grow to be pleasing to you and to bless others with your grace. Thank you for giving me the Holy Spirit to help transform me.Image result for cultivate heart

O Lord Most High use your Holy Spirit to purify and cultivate my heart so that it is soft and receptive to your will and compassionate to those in need. Make it a holy place for your Spirit to live. Heavenly Father, give me a passionate desire to know you and your Son. Please stir my heart for this, the greatest of all pursuits, so that I might grow ever closer to you.

Holy God, I believe that Jesus Christ is Lord and Savior.  I believe that he came to earth as a human, lived an exemplary life of grace and power, and died for my sins so I could live for you, and with you forever.

Amen.

Summer Devotional: Mark 16:20

Mark 16:20:  “Then the disciples went out and preached everywhere, and the Lord worked with them and confirmed his word by the signs that accompanied it.”

Note:  This is the last verse in the book of Mark.  He ends on the most important point:  spread the Good News.  Next, note how the Lord worked with them.  He was with them, guiding their steps, their words, their actions.  God will work with us always as long as we let Him.

Coffee and God: Last Sunday of the Month Coffee Chat

Coffee and God: Sunday Bible Chats

As I’m sitting here brainstorming ideas for this blog, my coffee is steaming. Its delectable aroma and satisfying smoothness soothe me like little else in this world.

Like everything in this world, coffee is a gift from God. He wants us to be happy and what else gives us such daily pleasure as coffee?

Coffee and God: Last Sunday of the Month Coffee Chat

Most of this blog is all business: God’s business. We chat about Bible Study Fellowship’s studies and questions. We pray for one another here. We come here for help with our BSF questions as we seek God’s answers. We may even come here for poetry and inspirational quotes and the occasional book recommendation.

Starting today, I want to “lessen our load” a bit by providing a forum for idle chit-chat. The last Sunday of the month I’ll post what’s happening in my mind and you can post what’s happening in yours. About anything. It doesn’t have to be about God or spiritual attributes. This can be where you vent or share an inspirational story from the month or just take a “coffee break” and relax and read what others are thinking. This is your place to just be.

My Coffee and God’s Thoughts of the Month

Today has been dominated with thoughts of this blog as I am anxiously awaiting the start of BSF’s study of the People of the Promised Land Part 1. I created a Pinterest account and a page specifically for Bible Study Fellowship’s People of the Promised Land Part 1 study. I am brainstorming lots of ideas to make this site easier to navigate.

  • I want to add more links in the sidebar to helpful resources for you during the upcoming study by BSF.
  • I’m brainstorming post ideas before the study so we can all jump in running when Bible Study Fellowship finally begins again in the Fall.

Other Random Thoughts Running Through my Brain…

  • I’m enjoying the lessening of the sunlight and the darker mornings.
  • I’m looking forward to the massage I have scheduled later today.
  • I’m petting one of my kitties!
  • I’m praying this week is God’s.

I hope you enjoy this inaugural edition of Coffee and God and add your thoughts as you’re sitting with God over coffee on this amazing Sunday morning, enjoying his blessings and gifts in our lives that we so very often overlook.

Have an incredible blessed Sunday!

Summer Devotional: Genesis 15:5

Image result for stars

Genesis 15:5:  “He [God] took him [Abraham] outside and said, ‘Look up at the heavens and count the stars–if indeed you can count them.  Then he said to him, “So shall your offspring be.”

Two messages here:  1)  Look up to the stars and the heavens and take in God’s amazing wonders and love of beauty.  2)  Believe God when He promises you something.  Cast all doubts aside and believe!

Pithy Prayer July 26th, 2018

Image result for nature journal writing girlHoly God, I confess that I get discouraged enduring hardships. I sometimes wonder where you are and why you have forgotten me. Deep in my heart, dear Father, I know you are there. But sometimes, O God, it is difficult to keep my faith burning brightly when I don’t hear your voice or see you face to face. Please strengthen my heart with your Holy Spirit and help me “see” you in a fresh way so that I will open myself to you and be tuned more perfectly to your service.

Loving God, Rock and Refuge of my soul, thank you for giving me the experiences I’ve had in my life. Thank you for the abilities you placed in me while you fashioned me in my mother’s womb. Thank you for the gifts your Spirit molded in me when I became your child. Now, dear Father, please help me to know how and where I am to use these gifts in your Kingdom and to bless those in the world, so that I can help bring others to you, help build up the Body of Christ, and bless your people.

Lord, you know me better than I know myself. Search the deepest parts of my heart for anything that is displeasing to you. Cleanse me of my wandering ways and lead me in your good and righteous way.

Amen.

Summer Devotional: 1 Timothy 4:12

1 Timothy 4:12:  “Don’t let anyone look down upon you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in life, in love, in faith, and in purity.”

There is hope in our youth.  They can and will accomplish great things with God leading the way.  It is our job to not discredit them nor judge them. To lift them up.  Support them.  Pray for them.  Encourage them.  And let them find God’s voice on their own.
