Summer Bible Study: WordGo’s Christ’s Life and Work: Week 3, Day 4: Matthew 26:69:27-10

SUMMARY OF MATTHEW 26:69-27:10

Matthew 26:69-75:

Peter denied knowing Jesus three times when two servant girls and others asked him if he were with Jesus. A rooster crowed, and Peter remembered what Jesus had predicted. Peter then wept bitterly.

Matthew 27:1-10:

The chief priests and elders decided to kill Jesus. They bound him and handed him over to Pilate. Judas had remorse when he saw Jesus would be killed. He returned the 30 silver coins to the chief priests and elders, saying he had sinned and betrayed innocent blood. He threw the money in the temple and then hanged himself. The chief priests could not put blood money into the treasury, so they used Judas’s 30 silver coins he had returned to buy the potter’s field as a burial place for foreigners. This fulfilled Jeremiah’s prophecy.

Questions for Matthew 26:69-27:10

9) He knows who Jesus was and that he was with Jesus. He forgot that Jesus was meant to die, as he had predicted his own death. Peter never thought he was human and would abandon Jesus.

10) Judas now feels guilty for betraying Jesus. He returned the silver and admitted he had sinned. However, Judas receives no comfort from the religious leaders (after all, we are all responsible for our own sins). They did not care that Jesus was innocent (they all knew that). All they cared about was their own power.

11) Both were remorseful for what they had done. Judas tried to make his sin right, but his sorrow was not one of repentance. Peter wept bitterly, truly repentant of what he did, while Judas took his own life. Judas betrayed Jesus; Peter denied him. Judas’ act was premeditated; Peter’s was not. Judas betrayed Jesus to leaders; Peter betrayed him to servant girls. Peter had faith in who Jesus was and had the right heart; Judas did not.

Conclusions to WordGo Christ’s Life and Work Matthew 26:69-27:10

Judas chose death over receiving God’s grace and mercy for his sins.

Peter truly had a heart for Jesus. Judas never did. Although Peter failed, he was restored because he was repentant. We all fail, but Jesus waits to pick up right back up. We simply have to confess our sins, ask for restoration, and believe.

Summer Bible Study: WordGo’s Christ’s Life and Work: Week 1, Day 5: Acts 7:54-60

Summary of Acts 7:54-60

The members of the Sanhedrin were furious, but Stephen saw the glory of God. Instead, they stoned him. Saul was witness to this. Stephen prayed for the souls of his oppressors.

Questions for Acts 7:54-60

12) The religious leaders were angry and got defensive even though they knew Stephen was right and innocent. They gnashed their teeth, yelled, and covered their ears (sounds like toddlers to me). Stephen maintained his composure the entire time despite his life being on the line. He was full of the Holy Spirit and saw God.

13) The source and nature of opposition is the devil and evil, as well as in. We need to do our best to grow closer to God and walk in His ways, so we can avoid sin as much as possible.

14) To always help others, to pray for others (even your enemies), and to have faith that God is just and He is in control. It gives me hope that one day I can be altruistic and loving as Stephen in the midst of my struggles. God is with you in the dark times always.

Conclusions to WordGo Christ’s Life and Work Acts 7:54-60

Note how Jesus is standing rather than sitting at the right hand of God. Bible scholars believe this is because he is supporting Stephen in his trial and he is getting ready to receive him into heaven.

Stephen had peace at death due to his believe in Christ as Savior.

Suffering can bring good. You can bring glory to Jesus in your suffering and long for God and heaven.

When we follow Christ, we give up our own plans.

Stephen was the first Christian martyr. He died to show Jesus is our only hope and salvation. Every book in the Bible points to Jesus.

Summer Bible Study: WordGo’s Christ’s Life and Work: Week 1, Day 3: Acts 7:17-43

Summary of Acts 7:17-43

The number of God’s people increased in Egypt. The new king was cruel to the people. So, Moses was born and educated in all the wisdom of Egypt. When he was 40, he went to see the Israelites. He defended one who was mistreated and killed the Egyptian doing so. Moses was rejected as their leader, so he fled to Midian and had two sons.

Another 40 years passed until an angel in the burning bush told Moses to return to his people. God spoke to him, and Moses led the Israelites out of Egypt. They wandered for 40 years before they came to the Promised Land. The people rejected Moses again and instead worshipped a golden calf.

Questions for Acts 7:17-43

6) The Israelites were oppressed by the Egyptians who forced them to throw out their newborn babies so they would die. They were oppressed. They were slaves. Odds are, they had little-to-no possessions. They were probably hopeless. We’ve all been down and out in our own way, be it with little money or other ways. When you feel hopeless in your circumstances, call out to God and hope in Him.

7) The prophet is Jesus. Moses was repeatedly rejected, but He still followed God’s plan for his life. People still reject Jesus, but he still pursues them out of his love for them, never giving up.

8 ) People are quick to turn to something that is seen and something they made. Idols today can be anything, from people to material wealth, beauty, fitness, and so much more. Idol worship only leads to eternal damnation and punishment. Here, God gave His people over to the Babylonians. Today, you may fall in with the wrong crowd, rely on drugs, and so much more. Results: you pull away further from God.

Conclusions to WordGo Christ’s Life and Work Acts 7:17-43

God is not a place; He dwells inside of you.

Rejection of Jesus leads to God turning you over to your sins. You have free will. It’s a choice to follow Jesus. Just know the consequences of rejection, too.

Summer Bible Study: WordGo’s Study of 1 John: Week 1, Day 3: 1 John 1:5-7

Summary of 1 John 1:5-7

God is light; there is no darkness in Him. If we walk in the light, we have fellowship with one another. Jesus’s blood purifies us.

Questions for 1 John 1:5-7

6) “God is light; in him there is no darkness at all.” Jesus declared himself light in John 8:12 and whoever follows him will never walk in darkness, but have the light of life or eternal life. You cannot walk in light and in darkness at the same time. You have to leave darkness to enter the light; you have to accept Jesus’ sacrifice for you.

7) False claim: You cannot claim to have fellowship and walk in darkness; you don’t live by the truth then. Instead, true evidence is to walk in the light or living by God’s truths.

8 ) Follow God’s Word and decrees, repent of sin, do your best to be like Jesus and grow like him a little bit more with each passing day. When you live by God’s truth, your life is light and everyone will be able to see what God has done for you. Those who live in darkness choose to be evil and they hate the light/Jesus.

Conclusions to WordGo Study of 1 John 1:5-7

God is light, and He brought light into our world when He created the heavens and the earth. Light represents God’s holiness, His perfection, His righteousness, and His goodness. Light is eternal life.

When you walk in God’s light, you repent of your old ways and walk in God’s ways. Jesus’ blood cleanses us, so we can be in the light, too!

Summer Bible Study: WordGo’s Study of 1 John: Week 1, Day 2: 1 John 1:1-4

Summary of 1 John 1:1-4

God was from the beginning, and we proclaim to you (Christians) what we have seen and heard so that you can have faith and fellowship, too.

Questions for 1 John 1:1-4

3) The Word of Life is Jesus. We can believe John’s testimony because Jesus was from the beginning and John saw, heard, and touched Jesus firsthand.

4) John is eager to proclaim how we all have eternal life because of Jesus. John writes so that we may have faith and fellowship with Jesus, too and know we have eternal life (1 John 5:13)

5) Jesus was from the beginning and that I have eternal life through faith in him. This brings be joy and confidence. The why is because it’s a deep sense of truth and rightness that is hard to explain.

Conclusions to WordGo Study of 1 John 1:1-4

Note we see the word “proclaim” used three times in these short verses. John echoes his opening lines of his Gospel with this opening, too, discussing how Jesus has always existed and is the Way, the Truth, and the Life for all of us. God is Jesus, and Jesus is God. We all share in God’s life through Jesus, which is the apostles’ joy to share with us. We have fellowship with God when we know and belong to Him.

Summer Bible Study: WordGo’s Study of 1 John: Week 1, Day 1: 1 John 1:1-2:2

Summary of 1 John 1

God was from the beginning, and we proclaim to you (Christians) what we have seen and heard so that you can have faith, too.

God is light; there is no darkness in Him. If we walk in the light, we have fellowship with one another. Jesus’s blood purifies us.

If we confess our sins, He is faithful, just, and will forgive us and purify us.

Summary of 1 John 2:1-2

Try not to sin, but if you do, we have Jesus, who will atone for our sins.

Questions for 1 John 1:1-2:2

1 ) Fellowship with other Christians and with God, the Father. By accepting Jesus as our atoning sacrifice.

2 ) “We proclaim to you”, “If we claim”

Conclusions to WordGo Study of 1 John 1:1-2:2

1 John shows God as the sourse of power in the Christian life. Note how John defines a word, discusses its opposite, then describes what a life in that word should look like. Do note that John the Apostle is attributed as author of this book due to the style; Bible scholars are not 100% sure as no where does it say who the author is.

Loved the reminder to walk in the light and to accept Jesus as our Savior. Great, great stuff!

The content of this book is to the first and second generations of Christians who were going astray from the meaning of the New Testament teachings. They thought that there would be no sin in your life if you were a Christian.  John sets the record straight by saying how imperfect people can have eternal life and be with God through His Son, Jesus. Christ is righteous and through him, we can be, too.

Look for the word “know,” which arises 105 times in 1 John (thank, BSF, for this fun fact!).

The Lord is my Rock, my Fortress, My Deliverer.

Psalm 18:2:  “The Lord is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer; my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge.  He is my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.”

Pray this to Him:

God is mine as I am His.  He is always behind me no matter how hard I fall.  He lifts me up and places me gently back down.  He is the one I run to.  He shields me from every evil.  He is my fortress.  Lord, you are mine.  With all my heart, all my soul, all of whom you made me, I thank you, Lord.  In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Rocks are some of the strongest materials on this planet.  They are beautiful, enchanting, mesmerizing, and at the same time intimidating, threatening, and dangerous.  The former is God to His people; the latter is God to nonbelievers.  A rock is all of this and so much more.  Lord, be my rock today.
