A Picture of Beauty

Hey all!

I just wanted to let you know I am taking a couple of weeks off from blogging before the BSF’s study of the Book of Acts begins. I’ll leave you with a beautiful picture to contemplate where it may take you.

Have a good rest of your summer!

Bible Prayers: Parting the Red Sea

Exodus 14:21-22 “Then Moses stretched out his hand over the sea, and all that night the LORD drove the sea back with a strong east wind and turned it into dry land. The waters were divided, and the Israelites went through the sea on dry ground, with a wall of water on their right and on their left.

The parting of the Red Sea finalized God’s redemption of his people from slavery in Egypt. It also showed the greater spiritual reality of God’s redemption from our slavery to sin through the work of Christ.

Bible Prayers

When I stand before you on judgment day and give an account of my life,  I want to hear you say, “Well done, my good and faithful servant.”

Jesus, give me a passionate desire to know you. Place in my heart an obsession to pursue this, it is what matters most in this life. That I might grow ever closer to you.

I read meditations by Anthony de Mello. It goes like:

I was a neurotic for years. I was anxious

and depressed and selfish. Everyone kept telling me to change. I resented them, but I also agreed with them. And I wanted to change but I couldn’t no matter how hard I tried. What hurt the most was that, like the others, my best friend kept insisting that I change. So I felt powerless and trapped. Then one day my friend said to me, “Don’t change, I love you just as you are.” those words were music to my ears: “Don’t change. Don’t change. Don’t change. I love you as you are.” I relaxed, I came alive. And suddenly I changed! Now I know that I could not have really changed until I found someone that would love me whether I changed or not.”

And then at the end, de Mello adds this one sentence: “Lord, is this how you love me?” And the wonderful answer is yes. Yes that is how you love me, how you love all of us. That unconditional love!

Jesus, you are the way the truth and the life. Do not  ever let me stray from you.

Bible Study Tools: What Does it Mean to Be a Servant of God?

In this second part of our series on what does it mean to serve, we’ll take a look at a few more meanings of this elusive term. Contact me with questions!

WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO BE A SERVANT OF GOD?

  • A servant does his master’s work. The servant performs God’s work for God, or on God’s behalf. We carry out God’s will and labor for Him willingly. Paul said, “I will most gladly spend and be spent for your souls.” (2 Corinthians 12:15).
  • A servant follows his master. Where God leads, you go through green pastures and dark valleys. He takes up his cross (Luke 9:23) to remain pure in an evil world.
  • A servant is satisfied with what his master pays. We are content with what God has given us in this world. We don’t grumble.
  • A servant defends the honor of his master. A servant defends God and speaks up for Him to others.

Hopefully, this will give you more of an ideas of what a servant of God is. Contact AToZMomm with questions!

Bible Prayers: The Exodus

Exodus 13:17-18  When Pharaoh let the people go, God did not lead them on the road through the Philistine country, though that was shorter. For God said, “If they face war, they might change their minds and return to Egypt.”

So God led the people around by the desert road toward the Red Sea. The Israelites went up out of Egypt ready for battle.

The Egyptians and all Israel saw the power of God. What He had promised to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob He now frees Israel from Egyptian bondage and sets them out to the promised land. God always remembers his people.

Bible Prayers

The world is increasing in sin and wickedness. I pray to never be a part of the evil that surrounds me. My hope is to have favor in your eyes. Help me to not get caught up in the pleasures of this world. I want to live in a deep, intimate relationship with you. Apart from you I am lost. My security rests only with you, my God and Savior.

I want you to be the center of my life, in everything I  do, say or think. In my relationships, finances and every area of my life. Jesus, you are the only source of light. I know that living my life pleasing and honoring you will give me the best possible life while I am in this body on earth.

Thank you for the experiences I have had in my life. All of the abilities that I have you placed in me in my mother’s womb when you created me. You give me the knowledge and motivation to use these talents to serve you while  I am here. Let me do all that you have planned for me, instruct me and guide me.

I lift up my heart to you, Lord, I know you are nearer than I can ever imagine. I know that you always listen when I pray. This gives me comfort when I am going through difficult times.

The foundation of my spiritual life is faith. As I read your Word it introduced me to Jesus. It gave me faith. Now my heart’s desire is to have a closer relationship with you. Lord, as I seek you increase my faith.

Bible Study Tools: What Does it Mean to Be a Servant?

We are called to be servants of God. But what exactly does that mean? In this blog post, I’ll dive into that question. Contact me today!

WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO BE A SERVANT OF GOD?

  • A servant serves one master. When we’re called to be servants of God, it means that we serve only one master: God. We let go of our sins, and we joyfully use our lives for God. In the end, we’ll have eternal life (Romans 6:22).
  • A servant follows God, not himself. We are to do God’s bidding, not our own. Servants listen for God’s voice, and follow it.
  • A servant is bound to his master, in this case, God. Through our faith and baptism, we have promised ourselves to God — a promise we cannot break.

Being a servant of God is not easy. Stay tuned for our next blog post for more on being a servant of God, and contact AToZMomm with questions.

Coffee and God: The Power of Being

Hey all!

It’s the last Sunday of the month, and today the power of being is on my heart.

LIVING IN THE PRESENT MOMENT

Life is taken up with so much busyness that we can lose ourselves, lose our way, and lose our family. Today, I just want to encourage you to put away your screens for a while, and reconnect with the present moment. Spend some time just being, existing, walking in nature, smelling the flowers, watching the grass grow, listening to the birds sing, and being with family.

That’s what life is all about — not how many friends you have on social media.

Motivational Quote: H Jackson Brown

“The best preparation for tomorrow is doing your best today.”

Bible Prayers: The Passover Lamb

Exodus 12:7  “Then they are to take some of the blood and put it on the sides and tops of the door frames of the houses where they eat the lambs.”

Exodus 12:13  “But the blood on your doorposts will serve as a sign, marking the houses where you are staying. When I see the blood, I will pass over you. This plague of death will not touch you when I strike the land of Egypt.”

The Passover Lamb was a type of the Messiah,  “Lamb of God” through whom God would bring redemption to both Israel and the Gentiles.  The similarities between the Passover Lamb and the Lamb of God, the Lord Jesus Christ are obvious. The sacrificial lamb was to be without defect,  just as the Lord Jesus was without blemish. It was the shed blood of the lamb which saved Israel’s firstborn from the plague just as it is the shed blood of the Lamb of God which saves men from the judgment of God. Jesus Christ  was the Lamb of God, our Savior.

Bible Prayers

You blessed me, Lord, when you reached down and saved me. I was given the gift of the Holy Spirit which seals me as your child. I want to walk in the fullness of the Holy Spirit every day. Let my actions show those around me that I am your child. When troubles surround me, instead of grumbling I can go to you with confidence knowing that you will answer my prayer.

There are times I have a feeling of restlessness. I go to you in prayer and ask you to tell me what is wrong. Have I sinned? Have I ignored you? I sit still before you and listen. You never fail me. My peace returns.

Obeying you is sometimes difficult, but I know that if I take that first step and patiently wait, trusting you, that you will provide me with all that I need to do what you ask. I can step out in obedience knowing that you will keep me safe and protect me no matter the circumstance.

Lord, your power is not limited to one group of people, to one church or to one religion. You are alive in this universe touching people’s lives. How I came to know you was in such an unexpected way that I could not label it as religious. Religion is not only about love, it is about ultimate truth. Whatever leads me to truth, to goodness, to beauty is from God no matter which religion it is found. Your Word does warn about false teachers who can lead astray. Often with good intentions but with harmful interpretations of what it means to be a Christian today. Holy Spirit help me to discern when someone is not speaking the truth no matter what religion.
