Summer Bible Study: WordGo’s Study of Hosea: Week 1, Day 2: Hosea 1:1-2:1

Summary of Hosea 1:1-2:1

God told the prophet Hosea to marry a prostitute and have children with her since God’s people were unfaithful to Him. So, he married Gomer. Gomer had a son, a daughter, and another son. This mirrors how God will rescue His people first through punishment and then reconcile them to Him. It illustrates Israel’s spiritual adultery.

Questions for Hosea 1:1-2:1

3) God told the prophet Hosea to marry a prostitute and have children with her since God’s people were unfaithful to Him. He obeyed.

4) Hosea’s first son’s name was Jezreel, which means “God scattered” whom God named because the house of Jehu was about to be punished for the massacre at Jezreel. His daughter’s name was Lo-Ruhamah, which means “not loved” because God will no longer show love to Israel. His second son was called Lo-Ammi, which means “not my people” for the Israelites are not His people, and He is not their God. The people have left God for other gods. Israel would no longer be God’s people.

5) Israel would grow into an innumerable number of people. The people would come together. The nation of Israel would be called “children of the living God” and God’s “loved one.”

Summer Bible Study: WordGo’s Study of Hosea: Week 1, Day 1: Hosea 1-3

Summary of Hosea 1

God told the prophet Hosea to marry a prostitute and have children with her since God’s people were unfaithful to Him. So, he married Gomer. Gomer had a son, a daughter, and another son. This mirrors how God will rescue His people first through punishment and then reconcile them to Him.

Summary of Hosea 2

Israel/Gomer is unfaithful to God. God then withdraws His blessings upon her/His people. He promised to punish her for her unfaithfulness. Then, God will allure her, lead her, and speak to her. She will return to God and she/Israel can repent and have peace with God.

Summary of Hosea 3

The Lord commands Hosea to love his wife again even though she is loved by another man. He is to love her like the Lord loves the Israelites. The Lord will redeem and restore His people no matter their sins.

Questions for Hosea 1-3

1) The Lord uses Hosea’s life to mirror His relationship with His people, the Israelites. God reconciles Himself to His people, which, ultimately, will be through Jesus, His Son.

2) The Lord keeps His promises. He has a reason for everything. He will redeem. This encourages me to keep reading, so I can see how God’s love will unfold.
