Summer Bible Study: WordGo’s Study of 1 John: Week 1, Day 2: 1 John 1:1-4

Summary of 1 John 1:1-4

God was from the beginning, and we proclaim to you (Christians) what we have seen and heard so that you can have faith and fellowship, too.

Questions for 1 John 1:1-4

3) The Word of Life is Jesus. We can believe John’s testimony because Jesus was from the beginning and John saw, heard, and touched Jesus firsthand.

4) John is eager to proclaim how we all have eternal life because of Jesus. John writes so that we may have faith and fellowship with Jesus, too and know we have eternal life (1 John 5:13)

5) Jesus was from the beginning and that I have eternal life through faith in him. This brings be joy and confidence. The why is because it’s a deep sense of truth and rightness that is hard to explain.

Conclusions to WordGo Study of 1 John 1:1-4

Note we see the word “proclaim” used three times in these short verses. John echoes his opening lines of his Gospel with this opening, too, discussing how Jesus has always existed and is the Way, the Truth, and the Life for all of us. God is Jesus, and Jesus is God. We all share in God’s life through Jesus, which is the apostles’ joy to share with us. We have fellowship with God when we know and belong to Him.

Summer Bible Study: WordGo’s Study of 1 John: Week 1, Day 1: 1 John 1:1-2:2

Summary of 1 John 1

God was from the beginning, and we proclaim to you (Christians) what we have seen and heard so that you can have faith, too.

God is light; there is no darkness in Him. If we walk in the light, we have fellowship with one another. Jesus’s blood purifies us.

If we confess our sins, He is faithful, just, and will forgive us and purify us.

Summary of 1 John 2:1-2

Try not to sin, but if you do, we have Jesus, who will atone for our sins.

Questions for 1 John 1:1-2:2

1 ) Fellowship with other Christians and with God, the Father. By accepting Jesus as our atoning sacrifice.

2 ) “We proclaim to you”, “If we claim”

Conclusions to WordGo Study of 1 John 1:1-2:2

1 John shows God as the sourse of power in the Christian life. Note how John defines a word, discusses its opposite, then describes what a life in that word should look like. Do note that John the Apostle is attributed as author of this book due to the style; Bible scholars are not 100% sure as no where does it say who the author is.

Loved the reminder to walk in the light and to accept Jesus as our Savior. Great, great stuff!

The content of this book is to the first and second generations of Christians who were going astray from the meaning of the New Testament teachings. They thought that there would be no sin in your life if you were a Christian.  John sets the record straight by saying how imperfect people can have eternal life and be with God through His Son, Jesus. Christ is righteous and through him, we can be, too.

Look for the word “know,” which arises 105 times in 1 John (thank, BSF, for this fun fact!).

I bought these for the first time last year and absolutely loved them! It’s so nice to have them in order, in one place, and ready to go. You never have to worry about going online to your account or missing a week and obtaining the notes.

Admittedly, they aren’t the cheapest. I just ordered my copy and the total came to $30.55 with shipping, which is pricey for a book. However, you will love it. It makes working ahead easy (which I do), and when you travel, this is nice to have for the plane, train, or automobile!

Summer Bible Study: WordGo’s Study of Wisdom: Week 3, Day 6: Proverbs 3:5-6

PASSAGE IN PROVERBS 3:5-6

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.”

Proverbs 3:5-6

REFLECTION QUESTIONS FOR PROVERBS 3:5-6

15) I hope I’m on the path to wisdom. I hope I make wiser decisions and listen to where God is sending me.

16) All hard work brings a profit. Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and He will establish your plans. The Lord works out everything to its proper end. I need to pray for direction in my life. That the Lord puts the right people in my life to help me accomplish my goals. I need to practice extreme discipline once my path is set.

Dear Lord, please put the right people in my path to accomplish my goals if they are your goals for the next phase in my life. Give me the daily strength to take steps to accomplish these goals. In Jesus’s name, Amen.

CONCLUSIONS TO WEEK 3 AND WORDGO’S STUDY OF PROVERBS

Summer Bible Study: WordGo’s Study of Wisdom: Week 3, Day 5: Proverbs 30 and 31

Summary of Proverbs 30

“I am weary, God, but I can prevail.” Every word of God is flawless. He is our shield to take refuge.

Summary of Proverbs 31

Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves. Speak up and judge fairly; defend the rights of the poor and needy.

A wife of noble character is worth far more than rubies. She lacks nothing of value. She brings her husband good. She sets about her work vigorously; her arms are strong for her tasks. Her lamp does not go out at night. She helps the poor. Her children arise and call her blessed. Woman who fears the Lord is to be praised.

Questions for Proverbs 30 and 31

12) “I am weary, God, but I can prevail.” It gives me the will to keep going and striving for my goals.

13) She sets about her work vigorously; her arms are strong for her tasks. I take my job seriously, and I try to be the best wife and mom possible.

14) I’m not really feeling like I lead in anything right now, so unsure on this one.

Conclusions to Wordgo Study of Wisdom Proverbs 30 and 31

I haven’t read the wife of noble character passage for a while. This is encouraging as sometimes I think I’m not all that noble.
