Summer Devotional June 2nd, 2017

1 Corinthians 10:13:  “…God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear.  But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can stand up under it.”

My husband is going through a hard time at work and I reminded him of this verse.  God never gives you more than you can bear.  He has a purpose is all that He does and all that happens in your life.  You don’t have to understand it.  You just have to have faith that God will handle it and will overcome it.

God’s Faithfulness

GOD’S FAITHFULNESS

God’s faithfulness keeps me alive
I used to be so unaware
I know now how to survive
When I pray I know He’s there

I didn’t want to let Him in
But He wouldn’t give up on me
He just kept right on knocking
Waiting so patiently

He knew I belonged to Him
Chosen before time began
He wouldn’t easily let me go
He loved me, sinning as I was

Once I opened that locked door
His love took over my life
How did I miss it before
His faithfulness was my guide

Now I am so aware
I see His faithfulness everywhere
In gratitude I kneel in prayer
My life surrendered in His care.

Comments on God’s Faithfulness

Why did it take me so long? I think back and realize He
was always there. What made me finally look and
know that is was all true.

My first look was in the Bible, but even then I did not
look with an open heart. I remember being so skeptic.
The one thing I did right, I kept seeking. I was about to
give up. I sincerely cried out and asked
“Are You really there?”

God was faithful. I have since read in the Bible
“Seek and you will find me when you seek me with all
your heart”. God kept that promise and my life
changed.

There is no secret. You have to really want it, want to
know Him.

God will be faithful to the end. I almost rejected Him
completely but He would not let me go. I thank God
that He did not let my heart become hardened.

I would not have survived.

Jeremiah 29:13 NIV
“You will seek me and find me when you
seek me with all your heart”

Promises

PROMISES

God I am so sorry
I have offended thee
It’s always the same story
These sins that beset me

I cry out so sincerely
Confess and promise You
These sins I lay before thee
Again I’ll never do

Then comes a bright new morning
I praise and worship You
My sins have been forgiven
I’ll start my life anew

So here I am this eve-ning
What did I do today?
I thoroughly examine
What did I have to say?

Alas, the same old story
I have offended Thee
I come again so humbly
Knowing You will hear me

As I kneel down before you
I realize gratefully
Your promises to me
Are not like mine to Thee.

It All Comes Down to Faith…

“Jesus said to him, ‘Receive your sight; your faith has healed you.'”  Luke 18:42

“Then he (Jesus) said to him, ‘Rise and go; your faith has made you well.'”  Luke 17:19

“Jesus said to the woman, ‘Your faith has saved you; go in peace.'”  Luke 7:50

“Then he (Jesus) said to her, ‘Daughter, your faith has healed you.  Go in peace.'” Luke 8:48

“When Jesus saw their faith, he said, ‘Friend, your sins are forgiven.'”  Luke 5:20

As I was reading my Bible yesterday, all these jumped out at me and the common word: faith.  People were healed by Jesus because of their faith.  People’s sins were forgiven because of their faith.

This is only a sampling of the amount of time Jesus talked about faith.  We all believe in God based on faith alone.  We can’t see Him.  We can’t physically touch Him.  We can feel and hear Him but not like we can feel and hear our spouse or our dog.  His presence is spiritual only.

I think our lesson for our time is the same as in Jesus’s:  faith is paramount to knowing and accepting Jesus.  It’s the key to everything else.

Even when Jesus was present on Earth some believed and some didn’t–because of faith.

This is what we teach our kids, right?  If you believe you can do something, you can.  If you believe anything is possible, it is.  I think some forget the crucial element:  “All things are possible with God, Jesus said.”  Mark 10:27

We must keep the faith even when it’s the last thing we want to do.  Faith alone must remain when everything else is gone all around you.

“They should always pray and not give up…cry out to Him day and night.”  Luke 18 1 & 7

BSF’s study of Isaiah talked a lot about how God is faithful.  But what about us?  We must be faithful to God as well.  It has to go both ways as in any relationship.  We must be faithful as God is faithful.

If we pray and believe and have faith, God will be there; He will accomplish His will; He will answer.
