Summer Bible Study: WordGo’s Christ’s Life and Work: Week 3, Day 2: Matthew 26:47-56

Summary of Matthew 26:47-56

Judas arrived in the Garden of Gethsemane after Jesus was done praying. He came with a large crowd who were carrying swords and clubs. They were sent by the chief priests and the elders. Judas had arranged ahead of time that the one he kissed was Jesus.

Judas went up to Jesus and kissed him. Jesus was arrested. One of the 12 took out his sword and cut off the ear of one of the servants of the high priest. Jesus told him to put his sword away for if he wanted he could call down 12 legions of angels. Instead, he must fulfill Scripture. Jesus asks the crowd why they are carrying swords and clubs. He taught peacefully in the temple, and now the writings of the prophets will be fulfilled.

The disciples all deserted Jesus.

Questions for Matthew 26:47-56

3) I want to remember Jesus’ cool and calm demeanor when there is chaos all around him. I want to remember how everyone fled from Jesus out of fear for their own lives. I want to not be afraid to stand with Jesus.

4) Jesus triumphed in the worst adversity. He was strong in his faith and never wavered in his steps to fulfill God’s plan for all of humanity. Jesus forgave all who betrayed him; so can we. All relationships are broken. It’s making the best of them that counts.

5) Why would God have his Son go through torture if it wasn’t necessary? The events leading up to Jesus’ death make no sense unless there were ordained by God.

Conclusions to WordGo Christ’s Life and Work Matthew 26:47-56

Remember that Jesus laid down his life; it was not taken from him. Out of his infinite love for us, he saved us. When he was abandoned, he stood firm. He was never alone because God never abandoned him. We are never alone either. Stand firm in and with the Lord, always and forever.

Summer Bible Study: WordGo’s Christ’s Life and Work: Week 1, Day 6: Acts 7:55

Passage: Acts 7:55

“But Stephen, full of the Holy Spirit, looked up to heaven and saw the glory of God, and Jesus standing at the right hand of God.”

Acts 7:55

Reflection Questions for Acts 7:55

15) I want to remember his humility, his concern and prayer for others, and how he uses the Bible to educate others. I think I’d be a much better person if I prayed for others more.

16) During his trial and testimony, Stephen always had a heart for his accusers and was concerned for them and their salvation. He was humble and relied on the word of God and prayer like Jesus. When I’m angry, it’s really hard to show the heart of Christ to others.

Conclusion to Week 1 of Christ’s Life and Work: Acts 7

Stephen is a really powerful example of how to live a life with God at the center. He lived and died for Christ, which should be all of ours goals. He prayed for others, and he never doubted the truth of God. Great!

Summer Bible Study: WordGo’s Study of 1 John: Week 2, Day 6: 1 John 4:19

PASSAGE IN 1 JOHN 4:19

“We love because he loved us first.”

1 John 4:19

REFLECTION QUESTIONS FOR 1 JOHN 4:19

15) Dear Lord, thank you for this life and life every day. Thank you for giving me the ability to follow my passion and for being able to do things with my kids and share my life with my kids.

16) Unsure how to put that into words. His love for me is so unfathomable for me that I can’t really describe this.

CONCLUSIONS TO WEEK 2 OF WORDGO’S STUDY OF 1 JOHN

I love how God’s fellowship can change how we live and how God aligns our hearts with His will in prayer. Good stuff!

Summer Bible Study: WordGo’s Study of 1 John: Week 2, Day 5: 1 John 5:1-21

Summary of 1 John 5

If we love God, we’ll keep His commands, which are not burdensome.

Jesus came by water and blood, and it’s the Spirit, water, and blood that testifies.

God has given us eternal life. If we ask God anything in His will, He hears us.

Pray for those who sin, and God will give them life.

Jesus has come and given us understanding, so that we may know him who is true. When we are in Christ, we are in him.

Questions for 1 John 5:1-21

12) God has given us eternal life. The evidence of our faith is love for others and keeping God’s commands. The object of our faith is Christ and God. The results of faith are eternal life and asking God who hears us.

13) Anyone born of God does not continue to sin. The One who was born of God keeps them safe. The evil one cannot harm them.

14) Yes. Give me help to know the joyful obedience in where I live and be open to where to move if that is your will.

Conclusions to WordGo Study of 1 John 5:1-21

Faith produces obedience and love. God holds our hears. We now have the power to obey. We have a new perspective.

Faith tells us God answers our prayers and we have eternal salvation. God answers prayers according to His will with infinite wisdom, mercy, and grace.

We pray to align our hearts with His. If we pray according to God’s will, we are certain He hears and will answer.

God protects us from sin, we are His, we know the Truth.

Summer Bible Study: WordGo’s Study of 1 John: Week 2, Day 4: 1 John 4:7-21

Summary of 1 John 4:7-21

Let us love one another. Since God loved us enough to send his Son to die for our sins, we should love one another. God lives in us and his love is complete in us if we love others.

We have the Holy Spirit sent by God to live in us. If we acknowledge Jesus as the Son of God, God lives in us.

God is love. We have no fear if we have Jesus. If you love God, you must love your brother and sister. We love because God loved us first.

Questions for 1 John 4:7-21

9) God demonstrated his love by sending his Son to die for our sins. His love is made known to us by the Holy Spirit that lives in us and his love is complete in us if we love others.

10) If we acknowledge Jesus as the Son of God, God lives in us and we live in God. We know and rely on the love God has for us. There is no fear.

11) Care and love for others

Conclusions to WordGo Study of 1 John 4:7-21

Here, we see who God is and how we are in God. A life of faith and love shows that we are Christ’s. God is love. A child’s life bears the imprint of their parents’ character.

God gave us Jesus as the ultimate gift of love. So we should love others, too, with the power of the Holy Spirit.

Summer Bible Study: WordGo’s Study of 1 John: Week 2, Day 2: 1 John 2:3-29

Summary of 1 John 2:3-29

If we obey God’s word, love for God is in us. If we live in God, we must live as Jesus did. If you love your neighbor, you are in God’s light. Your sins have been forgiven; you have overcome evil; you are strong and the Word of God lives in you. Don’t love the world and what is in it; love God instead.

Whoever denies that Jesus is the Son of God is the antichrist. Beware those trying to lead you astray. Continue in Christ.

Questions for 1 John 2:3-29

3) If we obey God’s Word, we have assurance He is in us because our love for God is truly made complete in them. You must live as Jesus did if you claim to live in him. Christians are commanded to love their brother and sister. Christians are commanded to not love the world or anything in the world.

4) Perseverance here is characterized by the words “remain in (or abide) and “continue in.” They hold onto God’s truth. False teachers deny Jesus is the Christ and that he is also God, both fully human and fully God. They speak against the truth in the Bible. God’s Word will help you hold onto the Truth.

5) The world normalizes sin and accepts it. Examples include striving to “have it all” and being materialistic, so anything you desire more than the Father. Believers can put God above all else and let their actions shine God, rather than the world. You can always give God the credit over everything else.

Conclusions to WordGo Study of 1 John 2:3-29

By obeying God’s Word, you can have assurance He is in you. Obviously, that’s easier said than done.

Next, persevere. If you obey and persevere, you cannot be led astray by false teachers.

We are to remain in the Lord, in God’s word, and in faith. We are to lean on him and live in his word.

Obeying God leads to knowing Him more.

Let the Holy Spirit guide you.

Summary of 1 John 3

We are the children of God; He loves us. We are like him. Jesus takes away our sins. Don’t let others lead you astray. You are righteous if you do right.

Love one another. Don’t be surprised if the world hates you. If you don’t love, you remain in death. Love with actions and in truth. We know what love is because Christ died for us out of love. We ought to do the same for our brothers and sisters.

The command: to believe in God’s Son and to love one another as he commanded us. He who keeps God’s commands lives in God, and we receive from him anything we ask.

Summary of 1 John 4

Beware of false prophets. Those who deny Jesus is not from God is the spirit of the antichrist. We are from God.

Let us love one another. Since God loved us enough to send his Son to die for our sins, we should love one another. God lives in us and his love is complete in us if we love others.

We have the Holy Spirit sent by God to live in us. If we acknowledge Jesus as the Son of God, God lives in us.

Jesus has come and given us understanding, so that we may know him who is true. When we are in Christ, we are in him.

Questions for 1 John 2:3-5:21

1 ) Love comes from God, and if you love others, you’ve been born of God and know him. God loved us enough to send his only Son so that we might live through him. We should love one another, and if we do, God lives in us and makes us complete. God has given us the Spirit and his Son. Love is from God, and it gives us the power to love others.

2 ) This is a hard one. Unsure what evidence I see. It’s always a challenge to self-evaluate. I hope I love others. I’m not very assured, really.

Conclusions to WordGo Study of 1 John 2:3-5:21

We must depend on Jesus and let His life define and empower us. Sinful people can know God through his gift of Christ to us. Then we can have fellowship with God.

John offers us five tests of true fellowship with God:

  1. Test of Obedience (2:3-17)
  2. Test of Perseverance (2:18-29)
  3. Test of Moral Purity (3:1-4:6)
  4. Test of Love (4:7-21)
  5. Test of Faith (5:1-21)

Knowing God transforms us and the way we live, as we turn from sin. God’s grace allows us to not sin. When we are sinful, the Holy Spirit corrects us, and we repent. We vow to be more like Christ.

The Holy Spirit lives in you and changes you.

Know that you do indeed know God.

Great overview of what we’ll study this week! Themes: God loves us; therefore, we love others. As we love, we turn from sin.
