Summer Bible Study: WordGo’s Study of James: Week 1, Day 6: James 2:26

Passage in James:

“As the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without deeds is dead.”

James 2:26

REFLECTION QUESTIONS FOR JAMES 1-2:

15) This is a hard one. Just to be more like Jesus. Here, it’s to do good works, not just works. That’s hard for me.

16) Another tough one. I fear I’m no help today. You can either adopt the “poor is me” attitude, or you can keep moving forward. I prefer to keep moving forward. Just try to do more for those around me.

CONCLUSIONS TO WEEK 1 OF WORDGO’S STUDY OF JAMES

A challenging day, but one to make you think. See ya next week!

Summer Bible Study: WordGo’s Study of James: Week 1, Day 5: James 1-2:

REFLECTION QUESTIONS FOR JAMES 1-2:

13) Unsure about “already” changed my thoughts and actions as I believe change — especially Godly change — takes time. Powerful chapters about perseverence, listening to others, and not playing favorites, as well as showing your faith through deeds. Remembering these is the key for me, and I try to every day.

14) Not much. I have studied this passage before so I understand you must put your beliefs into actions. Of course, this is easier said than done, so I strive to do so a little bit more each day.

CONCLUSIONS TO WEEK 1 OF WORDGO’S STUDY OF JAMES

James seems like a very, very wise man whom I wish we had more of his writings. But what we do have are cherished nuggets to hold onto. That is my prayer for you all.

Summer Bible Study: WordGo’s Study of James: Week 1, Day 4: James 2:14-26:

SUMMARY OF JAMES 2:14-26:

Faith requires deeds, or for you to live out the teachings of the Bible through your actions. It does not good to wish someone to be well fed if they have no food. Abraham’s faith was shown in his willingness to sacrifice his son, Isaac, when asked to by God. Abraham was credited as righteous.

Rahab was credited as righteous when she sent the spies away. Faith without deeds is dead.

QUESTIONS FOR JAMES 2:14-26:

10) Since Christians are held to a higher standard, we are called to help others. You show your faith through your actions. Great reminder to be looking for ways to show God’s love always.

11) You can believe that God is real, but if you don’t show you believe it, it’s pointless. True faith is living as if Jesus will come again. Intellectural faith is where you don’t quite believe this in your heart.

12) I personally like the example of the brother or sister without food. We are called to help those in need, and this is a perfect example of how to help.

CONCLUSIONS TO WORDGO JAMES 2:14-26:

This is a popular bible passage to study, and BSF has referred to it in many of their studies. Basically, live out your faith. Don’t just call yourself a Christian; show you have God’s heart for others.

Summer Bible Study: WordGo’s Study of James: Week 1, Day 3: James 2:1-13:

SUMMARY OF JAMES 2:1-13:

James warns against showing favoritism, which is discrimination and the judgement of others. James says that God has chosen the poor to be rich in faith and to inherit the kingdom He has promised to those who love him. The rich are exploiting you by slandering Jesus’s name and dragging you into court.

Instead, “Love your neighbor as yourself.” Showing favoritism is a sin, even if you keep the rest of the laws. You break God’s law when you break just one of His laws. Speak and act as if you will be judged. Judgement without mercy will be shown to those who are not merciful to others.

QUESTIONS FOR JAMES 2:1-13:

7) Because it is discrimination and the judgement of others. Many people favor those they like personally, those they connect with, those who look good and do good in their eyes, etc. It’s a part of human nature to judge by appearances, and it’s a fight we all must engage in on a daily basis.

8 ) If you love your neighbor, you will be prevented from showing favoritism.

Mark 12:31: The second is this: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no other commandment greater than these.”

Matthew 22:36-40: “Teacher, which is the great commandment in the Law?” And he said to him, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the great and first commandment. And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. On these two commandments depend all the Law and the Prophets.”

9) God shows mercy to me every day when I’m blessed to wake up and go to bed each night without doing too much damage to others. He has given me a blessed life and continues to guide my family as we move forward.

CONCLUSIONS TO WORDGO GAMES 2:1-13:

Powerful lesson about showing favoritism. We all do it, sometimes without even thinking. As parents, we do this with out kids, too. It’s important to love everyone equally and to treat everyone the same.

Summer Bible Study: WordGo’s Study of James: Week 1, Day 2: James 1:19-27

SUMMARY OF JAMES 1:19-27

James offers advice for living: everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to anger. Accept God’s word, which can save you.

Do what the Word says. You will be blessed for doing so and find freedom in God’s word. It’s good to look after orphans and widows, and to keep yourself from being polluted by the world.

QUESTIONS FOR JAMES 1:19-27:

4) All of them in truth. Slow to anger, slow to speak, and listen more. We probably all need to do that more. I do because I can get angry quickly and say what I don’t mean.

5) It gets me in the Word again, and I’m trying to stay rooted this summer. It keeps God fresh in my memory, so I can be more Godly every day.

6) There are so many ways. Donate your money and your time; volunteer at church and where needed. Keep an out for those that need help. Live out God’s word for others to follow and perhaps turn to Him.

CONCLUSIONS TO WORDGO JAMES 1:19-27

I like these short lessons. Ideally, there would be more meat here, but it’s the summer. I’m doing this so I can keep reading God’s word and grow with Him. A healthy perspective helps.

Summer Bible Study: WordGo’s Study of James: Week 1, Day 1: James 1:1-18

Summary of James 1:1-18:

James tells us that trials develop perseverance to mature us. Ask God for wisdom and believe you will receive it. We all will fade away.

Those who persevere will receive the crown of life. God does not tempt; desire tempts that gives forth to sin and subsequently death.

Every gift is from God who does not change. He gave us life through His Word of Truth so we can be the firstfruits of creation.

QUESTIONS for James 1:1-18

  1. Trials are only temporary, and they will grow you if you choose to let them. It’s encouraging to know that your walk leads to brigther days.

2) God is good, and He does not want us to suffer.

3) He has led me to right where I am at and always provided a way to survive even when it was hard to see how it would happen.

Conclusions TO WORDGO JAMES 1:1-18
