Summer Bible Study: WordGo’s Christ’s Life and Work: Week 3, Day 4: Matthew 26:69:27-10

SUMMARY OF MATTHEW 26:69-27:10

Matthew 26:69-75:

Peter denied knowing Jesus three times when two servant girls and others asked him if he were with Jesus. A rooster crowed, and Peter remembered what Jesus had predicted. Peter then wept bitterly.

Matthew 27:1-10:

The chief priests and elders decided to kill Jesus. They bound him and handed him over to Pilate. Judas had remorse when he saw Jesus would be killed. He returned the 30 silver coins to the chief priests and elders, saying he had sinned and betrayed innocent blood. He threw the money in the temple and then hanged himself. The chief priests could not put blood money into the treasury, so they used Judas’s 30 silver coins he had returned to buy the potter’s field as a burial place for foreigners. This fulfilled Jeremiah’s prophecy.

Questions for Matthew 26:69-27:10

9) He knows who Jesus was and that he was with Jesus. He forgot that Jesus was meant to die, as he had predicted his own death. Peter never thought he was human and would abandon Jesus.

10) Judas now feels guilty for betraying Jesus. He returned the silver and admitted he had sinned. However, Judas receives no comfort from the religious leaders (after all, we are all responsible for our own sins). They did not care that Jesus was innocent (they all knew that). All they cared about was their own power.

11) Both were remorseful for what they had done. Judas tried to make his sin right, but his sorrow was not one of repentance. Peter wept bitterly, truly repentant of what he did, while Judas took his own life. Judas betrayed Jesus; Peter denied him. Judas’ act was premeditated; Peter’s was not. Judas betrayed Jesus to leaders; Peter betrayed him to servant girls. Peter had faith in who Jesus was and had the right heart; Judas did not.

Conclusions to WordGo Christ’s Life and Work Matthew 26:69-27:10

Judas chose death over receiving God’s grace and mercy for his sins.

Peter truly had a heart for Jesus. Judas never did. Although Peter failed, he was restored because he was repentant. We all fail, but Jesus waits to pick up right back up. We simply have to confess our sins, ask for restoration, and believe.

Summer Bible Study: WordGo’s Study of 1 John: Week 1, Day 6: 1 John 1:7

PASSAGE IN 1 JOHN 1:7

“But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin.”

1 John 1:7

REFLECTION QUESTIONS FOR 1 JOHN 1:7

15) I’d be less stressful, less worrisome over money and the economy, and I’d have more faith that God is leading me down the right path.

16) Not trusting people whom I love and being mean about that lack of trust that is my fault. I will pray to remove that wall.

CONCLUSIONS TO WEEK 1 OF WORDGO’S STUDY OF 1 JOHN

Great week on our sinful nature and how Christ can save us from it. Through the power of the Holy Spirit, we all have hope for a less sinful life. We can love more and grow closer to God each and every day if we choose to. Putting God first helps. Let us be satisfied in God’s love and walk in the light more and more.

Summer Bible Study: WordGo’s Study of Wisdom: Week 3, Day 6: Proverbs 3:5-6

PASSAGE IN PROVERBS 3:5-6

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.”

Proverbs 3:5-6

REFLECTION QUESTIONS FOR PROVERBS 3:5-6

15) I hope I’m on the path to wisdom. I hope I make wiser decisions and listen to where God is sending me.

16) All hard work brings a profit. Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and He will establish your plans. The Lord works out everything to its proper end. I need to pray for direction in my life. That the Lord puts the right people in my life to help me accomplish my goals. I need to practice extreme discipline once my path is set.

Dear Lord, please put the right people in my path to accomplish my goals if they are your goals for the next phase in my life. Give me the daily strength to take steps to accomplish these goals. In Jesus’s name, Amen.

CONCLUSIONS TO WEEK 3 AND WORDGO’S STUDY OF PROVERBS

Summer Bible Study: WordGo’s Study of Wisdom: Week 2, Day 6: Psalm 16:8

PASSAGE IN PSALM 16:8

“I keep my eyes always on the Lord. With him at my right hand, I will not be shaken.”

Psalm 16:8

REFLECTION QUESTIONS FOR PSALM 16:8

15) Those against the Lord will be judged; those for the Lord will be rewarded and saved. It’s a universal problem of sin that there is evil in the world, that bad things happen, and that there’s not a whole lot we can do about it except turn to God. God is the global solution. Trust in Him for all things, including for the state of the world.

16) This is a tough question because all of them had things that spoke to me. I’m gonna go with Psalm 22. I pray, Lord, that you guide my path and that it be your path. You know my heart’s desire, and I pray you help me make that come true. In Jesus’s name, Amen.

CONCLUSIONS TO WEEK 2 AND WORDGO’S STUDY OF THE PSALMS

Great readings in Psalms. Always there is doubt and evil, but God and Jesus win in the end, which is the greatest story ever told!

Summer Bible Study: WordGo’s Study of Wisdom: Week 2, Day 5: Psalms 2, 16, 22, and 110

Summary of Psalm 2

Men plot in vain against God. God laughs and says He has installed his king on Zion. He warns the rulers to be wise and to serve the Lord with fear. The Son will lead to their destruction if they don’t.

Summary of Psalm 16

David prays to God to be kept safe. He takes refuge in God. Apart from God, he has nothing. God is his portion and his cup. He praises God and keeps his eye on him. God will make know to him the path of life and fill him with joy.

Summary of Psalm 22

David asks God why he has forsaken him. He trusts God, but asks God not to be far from him. God is his strength and deliverer. God rescues him, and David praises God and his righteousness.

Summary of Psalm 110

God says to his lord (Jesus) to sit at his right hand and he will make enemies at his feet. You are a priest forever in the order of Melchizedek. The Lord is at his right hand. He will judge the nations.

Questions for Psalms 2, 16, 22 & 110

12) Nations and people conspire against God. They say God is too restrictive and that there is no freedom from obeying God. The same. People don’t like what God has to say, so they do their own way — to their own detriment.

13) I praise God for this life, for what he has given me, for his undying faithfulness, and his forever guidance. God delivers me each and every day from sin, and I am grateful.

14) Jesus is God. He is seated at God’s right hand. He is the priest in the order of Melchizedek. He will crush kings and judge the nations. He will lift his head high. Jesus is our almighty savior. I respond with utter surrender.

Conclusions to Wordgo Study of Wisdom Psalms 2, 16, 22 & 110

Lots of reading today! I love how David doubts, but he never gives up on God. That’s what we must do. The Psalms are full of some of life’s great nuggets that we can grab onto and use in our times of need.

Summer Bible Study: WordGo’s Study of Wisdom: Week 2, Day 4: Psalms 7, 10 & 13

Summary of Psalm 7

David prays fo God to deliver him from those who pursue him. He finds refuge in God and prays that if he has done evil to be killed. He asks God to judge the people and bring justice and end the wicked. His shield is God, and those who are evil will bring violence on their own heads. He gives thanks to God for his righteousness and praises Him.

Summary of Psalm 10

David asks God why he stands far off at times. Those who do evil believe God won’t notice them. David asks God to not forget the helpless. He asks God to hold those accountable for their wickedness.

Summary of Psalm 13

David again asks God why he is forgotten and why God hides his face from him. He asks for answers. Yet, David trusts in God’s unfailing love, and he praises Him.

Questions for Psalms 7, 10 & 13

9) Savior, Deliverer, just, Ruler, Shield, righteous Judge, Father, King, encourager, compassionate, Most High. Savior and encourager matter the most to me right now.

10) Psalm 7 tells us how God grants justice and how He vindicates. Psalm 10 show us how God deals with those who do evil. God always sees the afflicted and defends the fatherless.

11) I think God sees me, but sometimes it feels as if He does not. I am currently waiting answers to a request. Since patience is not a virtue of mine, it’s a bit stressful. Verse 5: I trust in your unfailing love

Conclusions to Wordgo Study of Wisdom Psalms 7, 10 & 13

I love these verses where David bears his heart like we all do. How he asks God where He is. How he questions God, but he still has faith. That is my desire, too.
