Summer Bible Study: WordGo’s Study of Hosea: Week 1, Day 3: Hosea 2:2-13

July 17, 2024July 6, 2024 by atozmom, posted in WordGo Hosea

Summary of Hosea 2:2-13

Israel/Gomer is unfaithful to God. God then withdraws His blessings upon her/His people. He promised to punish her for her unfaithfulness. Hosea’s rebuke of Gomer pictures God’s judgment of Israel.

Questions for Hosea 2:2-13

6) Gomer and Israel would suffer: God’s harsh rebuke, Gomer would be stripped naked without blessings. Her children would be rejected by Hosea. She would not find any more lovers. Her path would be blocked. All festivals would end. Wild animals would devour vines and fig trees. Both would be punished by God.

7) God takes sin incredibly seriously. He punishes when we sin, but still redeems. Sin separates us from God, but only temporarily until we ask for forgiveness and come to Him.

8 ) The image of adultery makes me take my small sins much more seriously since adultery is such a big sin in my view. All sin is equal in God’s eyes, but not necessarily in our own.

Conclusions to WordGo’s Study of Hosea 2:2-13

God is always faithful even though we sometimes are not. Sin only leads to emptiness and a feeling of not going anywhere fast. God is our provider, our salvation, our hope. When we trust Him, everything else falls into place.

Summer Bible Study: WordGo’s Study of Habakkuk: Week 2, Day 5: Habakkuk 3:16-19

June 21, 2024June 15, 2024 by atozmom, posted in WordGo Habakkuk Conversations With God

Summary of Habakkuk 3:16-19

Habakkuk ends his beautiful prayer to the Lord in humility and in joy! He waits for the Lord’s plans!

Questions for Habakkuk 3:16-19

12) He confesses he is afraid of what God’s judgment will look like when it comes.

13) Habakkuk states how there is not enough food for the people, but yet he will rejoice in the Lord. Even though I do not have enough, I will rejoice in you, Lord.

14) The Lord is his strength. God’s faithfulness is most meaningful to me. I know He will do what He says He will do.

Conclusions for WordGo’s Study of Habakkuk 3:16-19

Our security is in the Lord alone. We should rejoice even in our suffering. God can be trusted.

We wait on God’s plan for our lives and His promises for us. His ways are not ours. Aren’t you glad for that?

Summer Bible Study: WordGo’s Study of Habakkuk: Week 2, Day 4: Habakkuk 3:12-15

June 20, 2024June 15, 2024 by atozmom, posted in WordGo Habakkuk Conversations With God

Summary of Habakkuk 3:12-15

Habakkuk remembers how God brought judgment on Israel’s enemies in the past and how He will do the same again.

Questions for Habakkuk 3:12-15

9) Threshed, crushed, stripped, pierced

10) God’s wrath is justified always. He is angry when His people sin against Him, and He always exercises judgment that is fair and just. God wants us to be holy like Himself, and when we’re not, He can get angry.

11) I have no idea how my journey of faith appears to those around me since I cannot speak for them. I hope it appears fruitful. I really don’t care what others think; I don’t let it affect me.

Conclusions for WordGo’s Study of Habakkuk 3:12-15

God’s wrath is because of His hatred for sin, evil, and the unrepentant. He then exercises judgment in response to His wrath that is righteous.

Faith is what we cannot see but believe based on God’s promises. He is so good!

BSF Study Questions John’s Gospel: The Truth Lesson 30, Day 3: Studying God’s Word in Community

BSF Study Questions John’s Gospel: The Truth Lesson 30, Day 3: Studying God’s Word in Community

6) I do an online study only, so you all are my group!

7) I pray for this online community and learned we all need prayer, even when we don’t think we do.

Conclusions BSF Study Questions John’s Gospel: The Truth Lesson 30, Day 3: Studying God’s Word in Community

I love that community is such an integral part of BSF, and I love the fact we have the ability to have an online Bible study, thanks to COVID. My, how things have changed since I started this blog over a decade ago.

When I suggested this to BSF back in 2011, it seemed like such a radical idea. Now, it’s almost expected.

I feel so very blessed by BSF, and I hope you do, too.

BSF Study Questions John’s Gospel: The Truth Lesson 30, Day 2: Magnifying God and Glorifying Jesus

March 25, 2024March 22, 2024 by atozmom, posted in BSF John's Gospel: The Truth 2023/2024

BSF Study Questions John’s Gospel: The Truth Lesson 30, Day 2: Magnifying God and Glorifying Jesus

3) I feel like I grow more when I’m in the Word consistently. When I start to feel stressed or things are going wrong, it usually comes back to not being in Word and my prayer life.

4) I feel like I understand the relationship more between God and Jesus and how interconnected they were/are. It helps me to understand God more, too. The worship of one is really the worship of the other, too!

5) His sacrifice. There truly is no better gift or action on this earth and in heaven.

Conclusions BSF Study Questions John’s Gospel: The Truth Lesson 30, Day 2: Magnifying God and Glorifying Jesus

Many people think you have to do big things to magnify God and Jesus when, in fact, it starts with the little things. Every day, give Him and Jesus glory in your daily living, and you’ll reap the rewards.

BSF Study Questions John’s Gospel: The Truth Lesson 24, Day 5: John 19:8-16

February 15, 2024February 10, 2024 by atozmom, posted in BSF John's Gospel: The Truth 2023/2024

Summary of John 19:8-16

Pilate was afraid, thinking Jesus may be the Son of God. When he questioned Jesus again, Jesus did not answer. Pilate still tried to free Jesus, but the Jewish leaders kept shouting and accusing Pilate of not being a friend of Caesar. Pilate gave in.

BSF Study Questions John’s Gospel: The Truth Lesson 24, Day 5: John 19:8-16

13) Hearing that Jesus may be the Son of God and probably knowing it’s truth somewhere deep inside of him. Jesus refused to answer Pilate.

14a) “Do you refuse to speak to me?” Pilate said. “Don’t you realize I have power either to free you or to crucify you?”

Jesus answered, “You would have no power over me if it were not given to you from above. Therefore the one who handed me over to you is guilty of a greater sin.”

b) Pilate’s loyalty to Caesar was being questioned by the Jewish leaders. The Jewish leaders also would not quit shouting to crucify Jesus. Pilate had no rebuttal, so he gave in.

c) Out of fear of a rebellion maybe. Out of fear that Jesus was the Son of God.

15) Sin becomes a habit, which can be hard to overcome. Once sin takes root in the heart, it grows and you are blinded to the light of God’s truth. Staying the course is always better.

16) Many. In the hardships of my life, He is there. He gets me through. God is good. God is faithful. God is Almighty. I respond by giving Him the glory.

Conclusions BSF Study Questions John’s Gospel: The Truth Lesson 24, Day 5: John 19:8-16

Humanity does not change, and how Pilate reacted has been seen throughout history. Giving into peer pressure is very similar. It’s hard to stand for Truth. But, we must.

End Notes BSF Study Questions John’s Gospel: The Truth Lesson 24, Day 5: John 19:8-16

Jesus gave no answer as he had already explained himself: his kingdom was not of this world (John 18:36).

Pilate was not used to people not being afraid of him and groveling for freedom. Yet, Pilate was weak. He gave into the Jewish leaders.

God granted Pilate power.

In reality, Pilate was not a friend of Caesar. He was a puppet, a pawn. And, he was afraid of losing his position.

In reality, Pilate was the one on trial.

Pilate presents bloodied, beaten, and mocked Jesus to the crowd. They reject him — a fatal mistake.

God often gives us multiple chances to respond to His Truth, like He did with Pilate. Failure to respond has eternal consequences.

BSF Study Questions John’s Gospel: The Truth Lesson 23, Day 5: John 18:19-27

February 8, 2024February 3, 2024 by atozmom, posted in BSF John's Gospel: The Truth 2023/2024

Summary of John 18:19-27

Jesus was questioned by Annas. He says he spoke openly and not secretly. He was slapped in the face. and sent to Caiaphas.

Peter was asked again if he were one of Jesus’ disciples. He said no. Peter was accused of being in the Garden with Jesus. Again, he denied he was there. Then the rooster crowed, as foretold by Jesus.

BSF Study Questions John’s Gospel: The Truth Lesson 23, Day 5: John 18:19-27

13a) “I have spoken openly to the world,” Jesus replied. “I always taught in synagogues or at the temple, where all the Jews come together. I said nothing in secret. Why question me? Ask those who heard me. Surely they know what I said.”

b) He slapped Jesus in the face. He was scared of Jesus and did not want the truth to get out. He also may have wanted to show dominance over Jesus.

c) Jesus did not retaliate. He simply asked why he was struck when he only spoke the truth.

14a) Peter was asked again if he were one of Jesus’ disciples. He said no. Peter was accused of being in the Garden with Jesus. Again, he denied he was there.

b) If you tell one lie, then you may have to tell more lies to cover that lie. And it goes on. Many people think since they’ve already sinned, why not sin more?

15) Jesus had predicted that a rooster would crow after Peter had denied him 3 times.

16) I can do nothing without God. Only His strength gets me by.

Conclusions BSF Study Questions John’s Gospel: The Truth Lesson 23, Day 5: John 18:19-27

I love how Jesus simply tells the truth and mankind finds ways to twist the truth.

End Notes BSF Study Questions John’s Gospel: The Truth Lesson 23, Day 5: John 18:19-27

Now, it’s Annas’ job to find out what Jesus is guilty of. Jesus is asking for the witnesses who accuse him, a requirement under Jewish law. Yet, there are none.

Jesus wanted to know why he was being physically abused. No one had an answer.

Annas was done with Jesus and sent him to Caiaphas for a more official trial.

Peter could see Jesus and saw him being slapped. Peter may have become fearful of his life here.

This is the same question as the servant girl’s (John 18:17) with the same answer.

Peter denied Jesus a third time, swearing by it Matthew 26:74. The rooster crowed, fulfilling what Jesus said would happen.

BSF Study Questions John’s Gospel: The Truth Lesson 22, Day 2: John 17:1-5

January 29, 2024January 27, 2024 by atozmom, posted in BSF John's Gospel: The Truth 2023/2024

Summary of John 17:1-5

Jesus prayed to God to glorify him so that he could glorify God. He says eternal life is granted to those that know God and himself. Jesus is finishing the work God sent him to do.

BSF Study Questions John’s Gospel: The Truth Lesson 22, Day 2: John 17:1-5

3a) Glorify means “to make glorious by bestowing honor, praise, or admiration; to elevate to celestial glory; to praise and worship God.” Believers glorify God by praising his name, bringing an offering, worshipping Him, and keeping his commands.

b) When Jesus is glorified, so is God, so by glorifying Jesus, God is glorified, too. He will bring God’s glory to those on earth to see, and, especially, to believers.

4a) Most people know about Jesus, meaning they know who he is. Christians know Jesus personally, as in they believe in him, worship him, does God’s will in their life, and grow closer to him by following his laws and decrees.

b) Having Jesus in my life gives my life meaning. It gives my work meaning, too. It motivates me to do His will.

5) Jesus had the same glory as God. However, after his death, Jesus’ glory grew because he became nothing for us. He was given the highest place next to God and his name is above all names. Every knee will bow before Jesus. “The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word.” Hebrews 1:3

Conclusions BSF Study Questions John’s Gospel: The Truth Lesson 22, Day 2: John 17:1-5

I love contemplating the glory of God and Jesus because I can’t fully understand it.

End Notes BSF Study Questions John’s Gospel: The Truth Lesson 22, Day 2: John 17:1-5

Many Bible scholars consider this the greatest prayer recorded in the Bible.

Fun Fact: This is the only, continuous prayer of Jesus in the Gospels.

Note Jesus lifted his eyes to heaven, whereas most Christians bow their heads to pray today.

Jesus prayed for himself, but it was for God. Jesus can only be glorified if God is.

God’s glory is revealed when His worth and character are shown.

We should give reasons for our prayers, too. Glorifying God in some way.

We see the glory of God in Jesus’ death, as it was God’s plan.

Jesus has authority over us and is the one to grant eternal life.

We are God’s gift to Jesus. How magnificent!

Jesus glorified God his entire life with his faith, obedience, and work. Can we say the same thing?

Now, our work just needs to be done, too.

Jesus wants the same glory he had before he became human — a pristine glory.

BSF Study Questions John’s Gospel: The Truth Lesson 21, Day 4: John 16:12-15

January 24, 2024January 20, 2024 by atozmom, posted in BSF John's Gospel: The Truth 2023/2024

Summary of John 16:12-15

The Spirit of Truth/Holy Spirit will guide you, speak to you what he hears, and tell you what is to come. He will glorify Jesus.

BSF Study Questions John’s Gospel: The Truth Lesson 21, Day 4: John 16:12-15

8 ) The Spirit of Truth/Holy Spirit will guide you, speak to you what he hears, and tell you what is to come.

9) The Spirit guides believers to do His will and reveals Jesus to us, and God and Jesus influence non-believers as well. All work together to ensure God’s plan unfolds. Everything that is Jesus’ is God’s, which reveals God to us, too.

10) The Holy Spirit helps us to understand what we need. He leads us to the right scripture passages to study that will speak to us and that we need to hear. Today, I need help to stay healthy and uninjured and to accomplish my goals.

Conclusions BSF Study Questions John’s Gospel: The Truth Lesson 21, Day 4: John 16:12-15

The Holy Spirit is such a calming presence in our lives.

End Notes BSF Study Questions John’s Gospel: The Truth Lesson 21, Day 4: John 16:12-15

The Holy Spirit testifies to Jesus (John 15:26) and reveals him to us. That is his job.

More teachings would be coming through the Holy Spirit (aka the New Testament) and more.

We grow as more of God’s Truth is revealed to us through the Holy Spirit.
